Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?
Before enrolling, we require all potential members to take our introductory program. The “intro” program is designed for the student and/or the parent(s) to visit our school, meet the instructor and experience the benefits of traditional karate in an exciting atmosphere. The “intro” classes are taught by professionally certified instructors. Once the student has successfully completed the “intro” program our Business Manager will discuss with you the different memberships and will recommend a program that will most benefit the student, and address any concerns and/or questions.

Is learning karate safe?
Karate is very safe. All of our classes are monitored and supervised by professionally trained black belts and assistant instructors. We teach and emphasize self-control in all classes and expect that our students apply these lessons to everyday life.

What are the benefits of learning traditional karate?
For each individual the benefits of learning a classic art can be very different. Typically adults focus on flexibility, weight control, coordination and self-defense. For children and teens, karate is also a vehicle that serves as a method to foster a stable, self-confident, self-disciplined and most importantly, focused individual that will be able to adjust and cope with everyday decision making. Learning how to block, punch & kick is only an additional benefit of learning a proven ancient method of self-defense. The benefits are endless.

How long does it take to attain a Black Belt?
Some students progress very quickly, while others may need additional time. If an average student trains diligently and test on a consistent basis, they can reach black belt in approximately 3 years. Our belts are: white, gold, orange, purple, blue, green, brown and then BLACK!

Is my child too young to take karate?
We enroll children as young as 5 years old. We offer a special class for kindergarten children 3 days a week. This class is fun, safe and exciting for your child, while they learn to become more disciplined, focused and confident.

Am I too old to take karate?
Absolutely not! You are never too old to learn traditional karate. Whether you are 5 or 65 the benefits are endless. In fact many of our adult students are parents of students. We also welcome seniors!

When and how long are classes?
We offer a flexible schedule, with classes Monday through Saturday. Classes are for 1 hour and are scheduled in the afternoon and evening.

How often do I need to come?
In order to benefit from karate, we strongly recommend that students attend class at least three times per week. Students are encouraged to come as often as they like during their scheduled times.

Do you combine children and adults in the same class?
No! Our classes are separated by age. We separate children from adults and even separate younger children from older children. However, size and maturity of the child will ultimately determine which class a child attends.

What styles of karate do you teach?
We teach Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate. We instruct in a very traditional manner, so that students may experience and pass along the rich Japanese & Okinawan culture.

Do you offer discounts?
We offer discounts for immediate family members living in the same household. Additional discounts are available for more family members. Also discounts are available for full-time college students.
