Hanshi Nakaza Seiei was born in Okinawa, Japan in 1942. He began his karate training in 1957 at 15 under Sensei Joen Nakazato, Sensei. Nakazato, was one of the most noted students of Chotoku Kyan (student of the great Matsumura Sokon) and founder of Shorinji-Ryu.
In 1960 Nakaza started training in Goju-Ryu under Seiko Higa, Sensei. Higa was a student of Sensei Chojun Myagi, the founder of Goju-Ryu. In 1966 he returned to Shuri-Te under Shugoro Nakazato, founder of Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan who inherited the Shorin-Ryu System from Chosin Chibana, Sensei. Chibana was the first 10th Dan Grandmaster of Shorin-Ryu Karate.
From 1974 to 2008, Nakaza served as Vice-Director of Shorin-Ryu’s Kochinda Dojo, and from 1981 to 2008 he was Vice-Director of Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Association. After 48 years in Okinawan Karate and Ryukyu Kobudo, Seiei Nakaza was awarded 9th Dan, Hanshi, by Shugoro Nakazato, Hanshi.
In 2008 Nakaza Sensei formed the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Kiyobukan Kyokai. He was committed to preservation of the Okinawan culture, the development of Shorin-Ryu and the legacy of Matsumura, Itotsu, Chibana. In 2013, Seiei Nakaza, Sensei passed away at the age of 72 leaving Kyoshi Brian Hobson as the sole heir of the Kiyobukan Association.
